Who we are
This website belongs to Mirkfell Books, the publishing imprint of the author Christopher Lockhart, based in the Scottish Highlands. We are responsible for any personal information collected through this site. You can reach us at hello@mirkfellbooks.com.
What this site collects today
Nothing that identifies you, unless you join the newsletter. The site sets no cookies, runs no advertising or tracking, and loads everything, including its fonts, from our own address, apart from one small analytics script from Cloudflare.
The site is hosted by Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare briefly processes technical details such as your IP address and browser type so it can deliver the pages and protect them from attacks. Cloudflare does this on our behalf and does not use it to build a profile of you.
To count visits and see which pages are read, the site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics. It is cookie-free and does not track individuals.
The newsletter
If you join the newsletter, we keep your email address so we can send it: launches, cover reveals and launch-week deals, two emails a month at most, plus a short welcome series when you first join. We never sell or share your address. The legal basis is your consent, which you give by confirming your address, and you can withdraw it at any time with the unsubscribe link in every email or by writing to us.
The list is held by MailerLite (UAB “MailerLite”, Lithuania, in the EU), which sends the emails for us and records whether they are opened or clicked so we can tell what readers find useful. We keep your address for as long as you stay subscribed and delete it when you unsubscribe.
The free stories
The free stories are delivered by BookFunnel (BookFunnel, Inc., USA). When you open a download link, BookFunnel handles the file and the instructions for your device. If you ask it to send a story to your Kindle or to an email address, it uses that address only to deliver the book. BookFunnel’s own privacy policy covers what it does.
If you email us
If you write to us, we keep your message and address only for as long as we need to reply and keep a sensible record of the conversation.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask to see the information we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, or object to how we use it. Write to hello@mirkfellbooks.com and we will reply within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk. We would be grateful for the chance to put things right first.
